MAUREEN ZACHARKI – Expressing her unique photographic visions of her world while living with Alice in Wonderland Syndrome

“I enjoy taking photos of the places and spaces around where I live. My home is in the historical area of the city of Saskatoon and is lined by hundred year old elms in the Nutana and University areas. There is something nostalgic and beautiful about these areas. In the middle, is the Broadway district… which has changed, and not for the good… It’s not as eclectic and fun as it used to be. They have torn down so many buildings with personality and constructed way too many condos it their places. All the great shops are gone… the Fringe festival is no longer relevant.. the Hello Kitty store is long gone… along with the candy shop, toy store, grocery store, convenience store, the book stores, the theatre, the antique stores, the retro clothing stores, jewelry shop, coffee shop, wiccan store, where you could buy handfuls of rose quartz… plus so many other cool and wonderful places that existed just a few block outside my door. I’m sad and I’m angry. And don’t get me started about the rest of the city!”
